Asymmetrical lumbosacral
transitional vertebrae type 3

Asymmetrical lumbosacral transitional vertebrae type 3

X-ray of the pelvis in the ventrodorsal projection (position 1)

Pronounced asymmetrical lumbosacral transitional vertebrae. As a result, the pelvis is rotated on its longitudinal axis.

Narrow transverse process on the last lumbar vertebra on the right (yellow arrow) and wide connection of the last lumbar vertebra to the iliac spine on the left (white arrow)

Through rotation of the pelvis the For. obturatoria project with different sizes (red arrows) and the iliac spine with different widths (blue arrows).

This longitudinal axis rotation may affect assessment of the hip joints with respect to hip dysplasia.
